Animation excursions

Fri Sep 25, 2009, 6:26 PM
...I suck at animating. That is that.

I started looking at it seriously about a week ago and so far can't get my head around...actually animating something...'__'

There's so much thought that goes into it that it's making my head spin, and mostly I can't figure out what the hell I want to animate in the first place!
Actually, I've narrowed it down to Mina and Ochi, since they're my bestest best friends from my character past, but still I don't know what I want for content.
I read a blog the other day (tutorial really) that suggested listening to music and sketching what I think of as I'm listening.
So burgeons my new problem. I don't know which song I want to use. If I do an animated music video, it's going to take up a lot of the foreseeable future, in fact animating anything will take up a lot of the foreseeable future, but even so. It's mind numbing.

I really want to start off with something simple, though, just to get the hang of animating. I got this free program called Pencil that's for a whole bunch of different operating systems and it's actually quite nice, but I seem to have lost my first animation that I was working on, and that's discouraged me further because I really don't want to do the frames by hand, but at least I won't lose anything that way and -hopefully- they'll be uniform as well (that's another problem I came across. I had the frames still saved in backup but they're all weird and different sizes [even though I drew them all in the same place at the same time using onion skinning] and so they go all over the place when I import them into the animation program).

Sigh... anyways, I dunno. If anyone I watch or that watches me could help me that would be a bundle of awesome. Maybe I could get a link somewhere to a tutorial or whatever that explicitly goes over the animation process of actually...animating???

On another note, I'm sort of stumped about my Halloween costume this year. Any suggestions?? : )

Lol. Lillith. *nods*
I actually have a wig coming in the mail, hopefully soon, that I could probably use for it later, though it might be better to go the way you did it and buy a short one with pig tail clips.
